Joanna Ciechanowska: A Retrospective Exhibition (1970-2024)\nThe exhibition traces Ciechanowska’s rich and versatile creative output in the context of her vicissitudes and the itinerary of her life journey as an émigré woman artist together with key formative influences.\nHaving left Poland during the communist regime in 1977\, Joanna came to Britain where she met her English civil engineer husband.\nTogether they were sent to many international postings – from Iran\, through Africa (including the Kingdom of Lesotho and Egypt) to Hong Kong\, and post-communist Poland\, where Ciechanowska was able to re-connect with her Polish roots\, before settling down in Great Britain.\nBy the 1980s Ciechanowska became a distinguished international illustrator and graphic designer\, before taking on the role of POSK Gallery Director\, promoting and mentoring Polish artists in the UK. \n     \n

DESCRIPTION:Chess Academy at POSK!\n\n\nWe invite you to the Atrium room – 3rd floor from: 13.00 – 18.00\nFree entrance!\n\n\n\nChess is a game played by two people.\nIt is played on a board called a chessboard\, where 32 pieces of pieces (of six types\, including 8 pawns and 8 figures each\, for a total of 16 for each player) are set up.\nThe aim of the game is to give a mate\, i.e. to threaten the opponent’s king with removal from further play (“rebuff”)\, which cannot be avoided.\nGames\, however\, do not always end in a mate – players often give up if they believe that further play will lead to their ultimate defeat.\nThe rules provide several ways for a game to end in a tie.\nIn addition to the basic rules for moving the runners\, the rules also regulate the equipment used\, time control\, player behavior and ethics\, facilities for disabled players\, the recording of moves using chess notation\, as well as how to deal with irregularities encountered during the game.

She has recorded seven albums\, garnering critical and public acclaim. On Ela’s latest album titled. “Zbieram Siebie” included carefully selected new songs by the Artist\, such as: “Trwaj\, chwilo\, trwaj” (duet with A. Nowak)\, “Posiedzimy sobie razem w kuchni” (duet with K. Kiljański)\, “Zanosi się na noc”. The song “Trwaj chwilo trwaj” for a long time remained at the top of the charts of\, among others\, “Trójka”\, Radio “Zlote Przeboje” and in the poll of the Polish Radio “Jedynki” was voted one of the top hits of Autumn 2009. The repertoire of the recital includes songs from her latest album “I collect myself”\, as well as Ela’s biggest hits such as: “Autumn reverie”\, “I’ll conjure you a fairy tale”\, “To Venice from here every day”\, “Conversation with dimmed lights”.
