SUMMARY:09.11| The presentation of the wartime German Enigma machine at POSK!
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday 9th November 2025 at the Polish and Cultural Association building (POSK) in Hammersmith\, Dr Simon Selby\, Honorary Consul for the Republic of Poland\, will be presenting POSK with a life size reconstruction model of the wartime German Enigma machine\, whose secret military messages were transcribed in seemingly indecipherable codes\, first broken by Polish cryptographers. The methods used by the Polish code breakers were later imitated and developed by British cryptographers like Alan Turing at Bletchley Park\, saved countless lives of Allied soldiers and were reputed to have shortened the Second World War by at least 2 years.\nThe process will be described at the presentation ceremony by Dr Simon Selby and by Dr Andrzej Suchcitz\, retired chief archivist at the Sikorski Institute and Polish Museum. The model will be on display at the POSK entrance hall for an indeterminate period.  It will be placed in a specially constructed display cabinet and will be accompanied by clear signage giving the history of the Enigma code breaking project in both Polish and English.

In this entertaining talk Ian demonstrates how 18th century hoaxes are memorable not only for their imaginative nature but also because of the differing motives of the tricksters.Ian Keable gained a First Class degree from Oxford University\, qualified as a Chartered Accountant and then became a Professional Magician. The concert will be featuring material from the new album plus some carefully selected tunes from John’s previous albums!\nLine up:\nJohn Donegan – piano/composer\nBernard O’ Neill – bass\nJohn Daly – drums\nSteve Waterman – trumpet (Special Guest)\nJohn Donegan\, the UK Based and originally from Cork\, is a modern jazz pianist and composer. His music has been featured on the BBC\, Jazz FM\, RTE Lyric FM\, and many independent radio stations across Ireland\, UK\, USA\, Canada\, Australia and Europe. He has performed with a wide range of British\, Irish and international artists\, including\, Art Blakey\, Art Farmer\, Barney Kessel\, Greg Abate\, Louis Stewart and many more.\nJohn had performed in the UK\, Ireland\, France\, Spain and Portugal and in Birdland in New York. John has written a Suite of contemporary music influenced by his involvement in Jazz and by his native Irish traditional music. These have been released in two albums entitled Siamsa (Irish for entertainment) Volumes1&2.\nHe has also created jazz arrangements of 6 Chopin pieces\, 2 John Field pieces and written his own original Nocturnes and these have been performed at The Chopin Festival in London and other venues in the UK.\nTickets
