Lecture: Symbolism, Iconography, and the Hidden Meaning in Art

11 stycznia @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm

Symbolism, Iconography, and the Hidden Meaning in Art lecture by Mariska Beekenkamp-Wladimiroff.

Discover the deeper meaning hidden in the work of paintings of the past.

Discover the deeper meaning hidden in the work of paintings of the past. Learn how to read the secrets of different objects, forms, shapes and colours included on the canvas. As the centuries passed, a language of symbols developed so that artists could tell stories with deeper and more intricate emphasis.

This lecture will cover a wide range of classical European art of diverse kinds and origins, and examine the fascinating and complex range of different symbols no longer recognised by modern audiences, making it easier for you to interpret works of art.

A Social Psychologist by trade, it took until the birth of her children for Mariska to take up her love for the arts again. Heavily pregnant with number 3, Mariska finished her MA at the Courtauld Institute of Art in London, in Dutch Baroque Art. Soon after this she was lucky enough to lecture for the most wonderful group of students. She decided this was what she wanted to do, and set up Art Historical London offering art historical lectures, courses, tours, travel and events from London.

Tickets: £10 on the door.
